Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Waterproofing a Wall in Cincinnati, OH

This basement in a West Chester subdivision in Cincinnati, OH, was leaking on just one side of the home, the front side. This home was situated at the bottom of a long and windy street, which is a very common denominator for a lot of the homes that we help waterproof. Anytime it rained heavily, all of the surface water flowed downhill from both sides of the street and neighboring yards, right to the front side of this home. To solve the issue, we waterproofed the front side of the home with our interior subfloor gutter drains and a sump pump system. Problematic Grading

The highlighted circle shows the problematic side of the home. As you can see, this home was located at the bottom of a street where a lot of surface water runs straight down towards it.

Concrete Patio on Front Side of Home

This close up view of the front side of the home shows a concrete patio. On the opposite side of this photo, in the basement, was where the home was struggling to keep water out. The concrete patio certainly wasn't helping either, as the patio helped direct surface water straight towards the slab/wall joint. For anyone who may have a patio like this up against their foundation, it's important to keep the joint sealed against the home and to keep the gutters above it clean of debris.

Leaky Basement Wall

This photo shows the leaky wall from the inside of the basement. This photo was taken before we started any work at all.

Waterproofed Wall

This photo was taken after we completed the job. We fitted our WaterGuard subfloor drains right up against this wall and covered them with concrete to keep them below the floor. We also wrapped this wall with our CleanSpace vapor barrier to help direct moisture that may come in higher up on the wall down into the subfloor drainage system.

Subfloor Drainage

The drains underneath the floor were pitched towards the right of the photo, and the drainage systems runs straight through that little hole in the partition wall.

French Drains

This photo shows the next obstacle we had to run the drainage system through in order to waterproof the whole entire wall/side of the home. This particular section was ran underneath the staircase. The drains continue towards the right of the photo to reach the next room.

Sump Pump

This shows the last part of the waterproofing system. Our drainage system was ran across the entire front wall of the basement, and the entire system was pitched down towards this sump pump.
