Egress Window Installation in Cincinnati, Ohio
Challenge
The existing basement only had a small, non-egress window that didn’t provide enough light, ventilation, or an emergency exit. The homeowner wanted a fully code-compliant egress solution without disrupting their yard or risking drainage problems around the new opening. Since the foundation wall was poured concrete, we needed to carefully excavate, cut, and install the new unit without affecting structural integrity or creating water intrusion risks.
Another key concern was ensuring that the new well didn’t hold standing water. To address that, we planned to integrate a proper drain connection to the home’s existing exterior French drain system.
Solution
We began by excavating the area around the foundation to the correct depth and width for the new RockWell egress system. Once the space was cleared, we removed the old window and carefully cut the concrete wall to fit the new 35x54-inch opening.
The new crank-out egress window was installed and sealed to create a level fit. At the base of the excavation, we installed a vertical drainage tie-in connected directly to the home’s existing exterior French drain system. We then filled the bottom of the well with clean gravel to promote drainage and prevent water accumulation.
Next, we bolted the RockWell tan egress well securely to the concrete foundation. The RockWell system is made of a one-piece rigid composite that won’t rust, rot, or buckle under backfill pressure, and its natural stone-textured finish blends cleanly with most exteriors. Finally, we topped the installation with the translucent RockWell cover, which allows daylight into the basement while keeping out rain, leaves, and debris.
We backfilled around the well, compacted the soil for stability, and hauled away the excess dirt to leave a clean, finished yard.
This installation gave the homeowner a bright, safe, and fully code-compliant egress window that adds both function and curb appeal. The integrated drain ensures long-term protection against water buildup, and the durable RockWell system provides lasting strength and a natural look that complements the home.
