Foundation Repair Products - This Concrete Underpinning Failed - Here's How We Fixed It with Helical Piers

This Edgewood, KY home had clear signs of foundation settling — from sticky doors and cracked walls to a visible gap where the wall met the floor. After a thorough inspection and planning meeting with our Foreman Nate, we got to work installing eight engineered helical piers to permanently stabilize the foundation. Before our team could drill, we had to remove a failed concrete underpinning system that a previous contractor had poured under the home. While the intention was to add strength, this outdated method only made things worse by adding unnecessary weight and failing to reach stable soil. We had to carefully chip away at the massive concrete pour, which had settled like a ship anchor, before we could move forward safely.

Once the old concrete was cleared, we drilled our helical piers at a slight angle to reach solid, undisturbed soil roughly 10 feet deep. Pressure gauges confirmed proper depth and resistance, ensuring the structure would remain permanently supported. After attaching heavy-duty brackets to transfer the weight of the home, we used a hydraulic lift to restore the foundation — checking door function in real time with the homeowner. Elevations were recorded with a Zip Level, and once the job was done, we backfilled the trenches and cleaned up the site. The result? A stabilized, level home — and one very relieved homeowner.
