This crawl space had standing water, falling fiberglass insulation, and years of damaging moisture that left it damp and unhealthy. To correct the issues, we first waterproofed the space with perforated piping around the perimeter, directing groundwater to a new SuperSump system with an UltraSump battery backup for protection during power outages. After removing all the debris and insulation, we then started to encapsulate the crawl space by installing drainage matting on the floors and SilverGlo insulation on the walls. We then finished the encapsulation by wrapping the entire space with our CleanSpace vapor barrier. A SaniDry dehumidifier was also installed to keep the air dry and healthy year-round. This photo was taken after we trenched perforated drains around the perimeter in the crawl space floor, installed our drainage matting across the entire floor, and wrapped the block walls with SilverGlo insulation. You can see the drainage pipe system when you look inside the sump pit in this photo. The drainage pipes were installed by digging a trench along the perimeter, fitting the trenches with the drains, then backfilling/pitched the drains with a gravel backfill.

The next step was to wrap the entire space with our CleanSpace vapor barrier. By installing the drainage matting underneath the vapor barrier, the floor becomes much comfier to crawl across. It also helps provides space for moisture underneath the vapor barrier to channel through to the sump pump.

An important step taken for this project was removing all the musty fiberglass from the ceiling. Our SilverGlo insulation panels along the wall make fiberglass insulation redundant. Fiberglass doesn't perform well in crawl spaces and can get moldy very quickly, so we removed all of it. This homeowner can now look forward to warm floors in the winter and clean air to breathe.

We installed a SuperSump with an UltraSump battery backup system for this crawl space. Normally, we would recommend a SmartSump sump pump, (which was designed for crawl space) but because this space received so much groundwater, we recommended a more powerful system. To the right of the photo is our SaniDry Sedona, which will keep the air in this space conditioned and filter out unhealthy pathogens.
