Photo Album: Crawl Space Encapsulation in Augusta, Kentucky

The owner of this home in Augusta, KY, had a tinier crawl space, (288 sq ft.) but it was nonetheless very intimidating. The wet and dingy space made for musty smells throughout the rest of the home whenever it rained due to a process called the stack effect. In a home with a crawl space, the stack effect creates a pressure difference where warm air escaping at the top causes lower pressure inside at the bottom, pulling higher-pressure, musty crawl space air upward into the living space. We encapsulated this crawl space for the homeowner to make for healthier breathing air by preventing mold. The new space also gives the homeowner additional storage space.
