Improve Your Air Quality with The Basement Doctor of Cincinnati

Does your house smell musty on humid days? Do you have a leak in your basement every time it rains? Is your insulation falling down from the subfloor of your open crawl space? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you likely have poor air quality in your home. Don’t panic because The Basement Doctor of Cincinnati has all the solutions you need.

How Basements And Crawl Spaces Affect Your Air Quality

Your home is not an airtight structure. In fact, as the materials in your house age, more air is able to get in. Crawl spaces and basements are the perfect places for humid air to get in because the cool air is pulled through the lower levels of your home. When it enters your home, it starts to warm up and rise. It will exit through the upper levels of your house through windows, doors, and the attic. This process is known as the “stack effect.”

An example of a stack effect. The Diagram shows particles entering from a crawl space and spreading through the rest of the house?
Here is an example of the stack effect. The air enters the DeMossville Kentucky home through the crawl space.
Then the dust and mold disperse through the rest of the house causing the air quality to go down.

As the air rises, it condenses, leaving standing water in your crawl space and basement. This is where the stack effect causes problems for your home. Without proper dehumidification, the humid air causes mold, wood rot, and other problems that wreak havoc on your air quality.

Why It Matters

Poor air quality affects your health. It can cause or worsen things like COPD, children’s respiratory problems, and asthma.

How The Basement Doctor of Cincinnati Can Help

You don’t have to live with low air quality. The Basement Doctor of Cincinnati can help you in several ways. The best solutions are crawl space encapsulation, basement waterproofing, dehumidifiers, and our top-of-the-line air purifier.

Encapsulate Your Crawl Space

Dirt crawl spaces are one of the biggest offenders for lowering the quality of air in your home. They are more susceptible to temperature fluctuations. The air that comes in is full of pollutants and pollen from the outside. They are also more likely to leak. These factors increase the level of mold spores in your home.

We install a vapor barrier that encapsulates the crawl space, isolates, and shields the interior from the elements, keeping the area dry and clean. Since everything in your home is connected, by creating a healthier environment in your crawl space, you create a healthier environment for your whole home.

We also have several crawl space insulation products that will assist in temperature control. TerraBlock™ is made of ¾" foam insulation. It is puncture resistant and can be used with or without our CleanSpace system. Additionally, we have SilverGlo™ Crawl Space Wall Insulation. It’s a 2” thick waterproof polystyrene insulation with a reflective surface. It prevents cold air from entering during the winter and keeps the warm air in. It also acts as a vapor barrier to keep your crawlspace warm and dry all year long.

Waterproof Your Basement

Mold loves dark, cool places, making your basement the ideal growing space. It wastes no time making itself at home in your home, so if you have an active leak in your basement, it's likely the spores are already contaminating the air.

The Basement Doctor of Cincinnati has a multitude of ways to stop a leak in your basement. It all just depends on how the water is getting into your home. The most common solution is our French drain system, WaterGuard®. This system is installed beneath your basement floor at the floor joist level. This system is capable of collecting a majority of the water in your basement and directing it to our TripleSafe™ Sump Pump System.

Water can get in from just about anywhere. So, when our WaterGuard system isn’t enough, we have plenty of other solutions for you. For instance, if the water is coming in from under a door, our TrenchDrain™ Grated Drainage Pipe will be able to collect the water to stop it from entering your basement.

Brightwall doesn't have to be installed on every wall. But it looks really sleek when it does.

If the water is coming from a crack in your wall, we have several solutions that can help with the assistance of our WaterGaurd and TripleSafe systems. ZenWall™, BrightWall®, and EverLast™ are just a few of the wall products that we have. These wall systems are waterproof barriers that direct any water coming in through the cracks in your wall towards our WaterGuard system. As an added bonus, if you intend to finish your basement, these walls make the space feel homey!

Dehumidifiers and Air Purifiers

Even a basement with an efficient waterproofing system might experience dampness and develop moisture and mold issues. That’s why we like to include an additional layer of protection for your basement and crawlspace.

The SaniDry Sedona is a high-performance dehumidifier and filtration system that filters mold spores, dust mite droppings, dust, and other particles. It removes up to 100 pints of water per day and moves over 300 cubic feet of dry air per minute. The best part is that it drains right into your sump pump system, so you don’t need to worry about emptying any trays or making sure you have access to a drain.

Our Cincinnati office is rather large so we have 2 of these
Aspen Air Purifiers running at all times.
It helps keep our employees healthy.

The product that we’re most excited about is The Aspen Air Purifier. It was created by our parent company’s very own Tanner Janesky. He created it because of his own severe allergies to pollen, mold, and pet dander. It has three levels of purification and doesn’t utilize materials that could cause you long-term harm, like ozone generators or UV lights.

The Aspen’s filtration process includes three steps.

  • The first is an allergy filter. This filter removes:
    • mold spores
    • dust mite droppings
    • dust.
  • Then we have the activated carbon filter. It removes
    • VOCs
    • Odors
    • Formaldehyde
    • Chemicals
    • tobacco smoke
  • The final filter in the Aspen is the microparticle HEPA filter. This process removes 99.97% of particles down to 0.1 microns, including
    • smoke,
    • soot,
    • bacteria,
    • smog,
    • viruses, and more!

If you’re looking for an air purifier that will remove the COVID-19 virus from your house or business, this is the machine for you. Very few other air filtration systems can say that!

You don’t have to be a victim of poor air quality. The Basement Doctor can help you improve the health of your home with just one call. As an added bonus, if you call us today, we can even offer you a 3-day trial of our Aspen Air Purifier. You'll love it so much you won't want to give it back!
